Kick-ass soundtrack for one of the best rhythm games I've played in recent years, including pumping beats, 80s synths and other beautiful additions. With every bass, a smashed robot face!
Favorite track: Metropolis Berlin.
The approach to the music of beat Slayer, produced by Markus Zierhofer (AudioCreatures) was aimed at complementing the game's theme of an 80s-inspired dystopian Berlin, merging it seamlessly with modern EDM, Punk, and Orchestral Elements to create a rich and depth musical landscape.
In this rhythm game, "hitting the beat" is not just an expression; it's a literal requirement. The music serves as a crucial support for players, enabling them to hit moves precisely on beat, execute combos, and clear stages effectively.
The music is structured into three Acts. Initially, we maintain a driving synth, 4 to the floor kick, and 80s-inspired drums to accompany players through the early stages. In the second Act, we introduce influences from Punk and urban vibes to add depth. As players progress towards the headquarters, the music becomes more dramatic, blending EDM production with live orchestral recordings for the final showdown, creating a unique fusion seldom explored in game soundtracks.
Collaboration on such a music heavy game was key to fulfill the games premise. Naturally, we enlisted artists active in the Berlin club scene to infuse the music with the right timbres, colors, and atmosphere. Alongside music production partners Concrete Panther and Karim Alkhayat, a portion of the soundtrack was recorded with the renowned Filmorchester Babelsberg as part of the "Live Score Berlin" initiative by Markus Zierhofer. These collaborations added emotional depth and dramatic flair, setting the stage for the grand finale atop the Berlin Fernsehturm.
The soundtrack serves as a sonic journey through the world of Beat Slayer, capturing the essence of EDM and Synthwave while offering fresh interpretations and seamlessly merging diverse musical elements.
